MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – With another nor’easter creeping toward Mount Vernon on Thursday, the city announced that alternate side of the street parking will be in effect citywide.
By activating the parking protocol, the public works employees will be able to plow all the way to the curb on one side of the street during the duration of the storm. Once the storm blows through, motorists will again be permitted to return to the opposite side of the street.
City officials have warned that police and public works employees have been instructed to strictly enforce this, and other citywide snow rules.
Residents are not permitted to blow or shovel snow onto city streets while clearing properties, cars or sidewalks. Homeowners who live on corner plots are also advised that it is their responsibility to clear the sidewalks to the street.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to hit the area early on Thursday morning, with one or two inches accumulating before dawn. Snow, freezing rain and snow is expected to continue through the mid-afternoon. Eight to 10 inches of snow are anticipated.
