Mekeel retired in 2011-- and he's used the extra time to hone his photography skills.
His interest in photography started as a boy, working with his father, an avid amateur photographer, taking pictures, developing film and creating prints. When Mekeel bought his first digital camera in the late '90s, it revitalized his interest in photography, and its artistic aspect.
"His interest in subjects knows no bounds and he loves the stories that a photo can share," organizers note. "His goal is to capture the beauty in detail and provide the viewers with images that evoke feelings and perhaps make us see the world through his eyes."
