Francesco Balestriere, 89, of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Francesco Balestriere of Norwalk died June 22 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 89. 

Born Nov. 10, 1922 in Italy, he was the son of Crescenzo and Teresa Balestriere. He was a longtime Norwalk resident and was retired from Nash Engineering. Balestriere served in the Italian Army during World War II. He was married to the former Maddalena Cenatiempo. 

Balestriere traveled back to Italy many times to visit family and friends. He was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed gardening. 

He is survived by his wife, Maddalena; two sons, Chris (Frances) Balestriere, of Norwalk, and Philip Balestriere, of Stamford; three daughters, Ann (Carmine) Siano, of Norwalk, Teresa Siano, of Norwalk and Virginia Graziosi, of Old Brookville, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew's Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
