The Fourth of July festivities have come and gone, which in Darien means one thing: Its time to get ready for Darien Days. The annual carnival returns to Hindley Elementary School this Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, bringing rides, food, games and entertainment for families looking for a fun night on the town.
The carnival is open from 6 to 10 p.m. July 8 and 9, and from 4 to 10 p.m. July 10. Rainbow Amusements has rides running all three nights, and a $20 wristband buys you unlimited rides for an evening. The towns three volunteer fire departments are manning the food booths each night, with all the usual carnival fare. Friday and Saturday also have a few special treats. On July 9, a caricaturist stops by, selling portraits of carnival-goers. And a miniature golf course is up and running on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Local bands play live music all three nights. E.J. Couloucoundis kicks things off on Thursday night from 8 to 10. Friday brings a double-header, with Trampled Rose featuring Nick DeMaio performing from 6 to 8, followed by karaoke with DJ JimmyJamz until closing. Finishing up the weekend is Way Back Machine, going on from 6 to 10 on Saturday.
Whichever night you choose, you wont regret leaving the safety of air-conditioning for a few hours. Just save us a Sno-cone.
