Richard Thomas Takes Office As Mount Vernon's New Mayor

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Richard Thomas was sworn in Friday as Mount Vernon's new mayor, succeeding longtime Mayor Ernie Davis, whom Thomas defeated in the November election, according to a report on News 12 Hudson Valley.

Thomas, 33, took the oath of office in a ceremony at Mount Vernon High School as administered by David Paterson, former New York governor, News 12 reported.

Some in attendance expressed optimism that Thomas' administration will help improve city schools and reduce crime, among other issues facing the city, according to News 12.
