"Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the slain officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Acts such as these are heinous and there is no justification. The violent deaths of law enforcement officers and members of the community over the past few weeks show the continued need for reform, understanding, and a change in policy. We in Mount Vernon are committed to bridging the gap between both sides of the badge. Our Police Department will continue to engage with the community with pop-up parks, basketball courts, block parties, and events that bring people together."
