Sgt. Michael Marcucilli has been named in multiple lawsuits involving the Mount Vernon Police department. The legal fees and settlements have cost the city more than $930,000, LoHud.com said.
Marcucilli was the ranking officer on the scene Friday when authorities made several attempts to subdue Anthony Smith using Tasers and "pepper spray." Smith reportedly lunged at officers with a knife and scissors, knocking an officer down before authorities opened fire and shot Smith seven times, LoHud.com reported.
In 2009, Marcucilli responded to at A.B. Davis Middle School where he reportedly found a 12-year-old inside and hit him in the head with his baton. The city settled with the child's mother out of court for $250,000, LoHud.com said.
