Derickson K. Lawrence, chairman of the Westchester County Home Owners' Coalition, said in a press release that representatives of both organizations hope to find community volunteers to prepare potential police recruits for the exam.

Usually, police personnel provide educational opportunities to potential department candidates, which can stress the department’s budget due to overtime and after-hours considerations, Lawrence noted.

“This is a win-win-win when you consider the savings to the city,” Michael Goldman, deputy chief of police, said in a press release.

“We want to get the word out early, and I want the community to see the police career as the noble and rewarding profession that it is.”

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Police Department, 2 Roosevelt Square North, in the Mount Vernon Civic Center.
