MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Leroi Bouche, the career criminal who took police on a wild, nearly weeklong manhunt after running down an investigator in Mount Vernon last month, was arraigned Tuesday, July 8, on a 10-count indictment that includes eight felony charges.

On June 7, Bouche, 27, was on East Lincoln Avenue about 7:30 a.m., when a Yonkers detective approached him, intending to question him about a pending case. The suspect then sped away, striking the investigator, who was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

After striking several parked cars, Bouche sped away, leading police on a manhunt that concluded with his apprehension in the Bronx five days later. The manhunt forced several nearby schools to enter lockdown protocols and closed down several city streets.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, the detective identified himself to Bouche as a police officer before the suspect accelerated into him, dealing serious damage. The 14-year veteran of the Yonkers Police Department had been assigned to the District Attorney’s Narcotics Initiative detail.

Bouche was charged with lone felony counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, assault in the first degree, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting personal injury and assault on a police officer. Additionally, he was charged with two counts each of second-degree assault and criminal mischief.

Misdemeanor counts against Bouche include a count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting property damage. He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

The career criminal is due back in court on Tuesday, Aug. 5. He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney John O’Rourke, major case coordinator, and Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy of the Superior Court Trial Division have been assigned as prosecutors.
