MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon firefighters are still working to put out pockets of fire that keep popping up at a party supplies warehouse fire that started early Thursday morning.

More than 50 firefighters responded to battle the blaze at the Westside Party Rentals at 200 S. 13th Ave, said Mount Vernon Deputy Fire Chief Michael Corrado.

"Right now, the second shift is coming in to takeover, we will be there all night," Corrado said.

The building had a concrete roof that prevented firefighters from entering from the top and all entryways were locked, said Deputy Chief Michael St. John.

Firefighters were forced to open multiple loading dock doors to help battle the blaze, he added.

The building is full of tents, tables, chairs and other items used for parties, officials said.

"It will be hours before the fire is under control and we can begin any kind of investigation," said Corrado.

More than 50 firefighters from New Rochelle, Eastchester and Yonkers have been called in to help assist efforts.
