According to a lohud report released on Tuesday afternoon, officials with the New York State Insurance Fund has made a claim that R & S Waste Services in New Rochelle, which is owned by Spiezio took out an insurance policy in five years ago, but failed to pay $780,000 in premiums before the coverage was ultimately cancelled last year.
Spiezio has been a steady presence in the news since taking over his position in 2015 when then-new Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas appointed him as the deputy police commissioner.
Most recently, Spiezio and Thomas butted heads with Mount Vernon City Comptroller Maureen Walker over the purchase of a $70,000 luxury SUV for the police station that Walker says was intended for his own personal use.
The report states that the lawsuit was filed in state Supreme Court late last month, though Spiezio has denied that he is being sued. Officials from R & S could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
