On Saturday, members of Black Westchester and People Before Politics Radio are hosting a public rally, with an invitation to any and all Mount Vernon politicians, at the Embassy of First. There is expected to be a full panel that will be prepared to answer questions regarding the much-maligned field.
According to an invitation that has been disseminated throughout the city, “the buck stops here! All of your elected officials, including Mayor (Ernest) Davis, County Legislator Lyndon Williams and various members of the Mount Vernon City Council have been invited, and several have confirmed.”
The forum will allow residents to voice their concerns and complaints, as well as provide comment to their local officials regarding the field, which has been out of commission for several years.
In its prime, Memorial Field, which was built in the late 1920s, was one of the most prominent and highly populated parks in Westchester County. Officials have been proposing and reviewing ideas to renovate the field, but they’ve been stuck in a holding pattern for more than two years.
The community forum to support renovations at Memorial Field will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Embassy of First, 28 E. First St., between South Second and Third avenues. Those interested in attending are recommended to RSVP at info@beyondthenow.org or by calling (914) 663-9300 to reserve a seat.
