A Ravens spokesman said the team spoke with Rice and learned the he and Janay Palmer returned home together after being detained.
"We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancée," the Ravens said in a statement Sunday night. "We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."
Rice and Janay Palmer "struck each other with their hands," but no injuries were reported. Both were released with summons to appear in court, according to Atlantic City police.
Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome told the Baltimore Sun on Monday that he and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh would speak to Rice about the matter as soon as possible.
"I don't know the situation," Newsome said. "I've only gotten what has been written. I have not had a chance to talk to Ray. I have had a chance to talk to (director of team security) Darren (Sanders). I really don't know that situation. With me, I get all the answers. Then that's when we make decisions within this organization, once we get all the information we can get."
Rice, 27, signed a five-year, $35-million deal with the Ravens before the 2012 season. He has rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns over six NFL seasons.
The former New Rochelle High School star is coming off his worst season with the team, gaining 660 rushing yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry.
