Dontan Jenkins, 33, was a security guard at the Levister Towers Apartment complex along with the victim, Richard Brown, who had been employed at the complex for 10 days prior to the incident, the district attorney said.

During those 10 days, Jenkins and Brown had two altercations, including one on July 20, 2014 after another exchange of words during a change of shift.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. the following morning, Jenkins approached the security booth, fired three shots at Brown and killed him, the district attorney said.

Jenkins will be sentenced on Oct. 1 and faces 25 years-to-life in prison, the district attorney said.
