The Journal News (Lohud) took a strong position on police diversity-June 03, 2015. We applaud the Journal News’ endorsement of this effort.
The endorsement could not be timelier, considering Bill A0 2804b, sponsored by Assemblyman Gary Pretlow in the NYS Assembly was recently voted out of the Governmental Employees Committee on June 2.
If it passes, in addition to enabling the hire of minorities and women to the police force, without lowering standards, it will mitigate “badge drain” where ever it occurs in New York State--a recurring loss of police investment dollars for municipalities.

The Bill is now in the Assembly’s Rules Committee, and We are exhausting all efforts --via public support --to get it to the floor for a vote in both houses.
The main point is: It is rare to find a political position or an issue that unites the left and the right. Based on the endorsements Bill A0 2804b, has done that and, is right for New York state.
