A Westchester' Resident's Love For Beer Leads To An Honorary Knighthood

It's not every day a White Plains resident gets knighted but Chris DeCicco, co-owner of DeCicco & Son’s, with stores in Ardsley, Armonk, Harrison, Larchmont, MIllwood and Pelham, recently got that honor.

The grocery store exec was awarded by the Knighthood of the Brewers Mash Staff on Friday, Sept. 1 in Brussels, Belgium.

Honorary knights are individuals who have “rendered loyal services to the brewing profession.” This year DeCicco was selected as one of only four Americans. He was only the second retailer in New York State to be honored since the inception of the honorary knighthood began and the first outside of New York City.

DeCicco was nominated by the Belgian beer community for his dedication to, and advancement of the Belgian beer culture in the U.S. and specifically in New York State.

DeCicco developed his appreciation for Belgian beer during his travels around the world. He established the DeCicco’s extensive beer program in the mid-1990’s, before the U.S. craft beer “boom."

He was drawn to the Belgian culture of pairing beer with food -- a natural fit in the family-run supermarkets.

DeCicco & Sons has been honored many times for its commitment to excellence in beer, including Best of Westchester’s “Best Beer Selection,” Rate Beer’s “Best Beer Store in New York” and “Best Beer Store Internationally.” Each DeCicco & Son’s location includes a vast selection in their beer department, and all but one of their locations includes an on-premise bar.
