MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon community is coming together to help the two families left homeless following a fire at a Willow Place residence earlier this month.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, a fire ripped through the multi-family home, leaving it unsalvageable after firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.

Each of the residents made it out of the home safely without injuries, though several firefighters were treated for minor wounds. The three-alarm fire required every on-duty Mount Vernon firefighter, with an assist from departments in nearby Pelham and Yonkers.

In an effort to help the 10 displaced members of the Antunez and Brauer families, Boy Scout Troop 40 – led by good Samaritan Chris Maselli – is hosting a fundraiser for them at Maggie Spillane’s on Gramatan Avenue.

The event will feature a suggested donation, which will go to the families, food and drink specials, as well as a series of raffles that include tickets to the New York Yankees and an autographed football from the Giants.

The fundraiser for the Antunez and Brauer families will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Maggie Spillane’s in Fleetwood. Other donations can be made payable to Troop 40 BSA, with the memo “fire relief fund,” at 39 7th St. in New Rochelle.
