Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced on Wednesday that “due to a combination of factors outside our control,” city officials have been forced to indefinitely postpone the “Slide the City” event, which drew a sizable crowd at the inaugural event last year. Westchester Residents Gather For Prime Solar Eclipse Viewing NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --  More than 250 people showed up at New Rochelle High School Monday, Aug. 21 for the lunar eclipse of the sun. The event was organized by the school's astronomy teacher Bruce Zeller who said he was pleased -- if not a little overwhelmed -- by the crowd. The event had promised free solar eclipse glasses to all but quickly ran out.  In order to see the eclipse, it was necessary to use solar glasses and a telescope. Zeller advised sharing.
