A program to create jobs for local tradespeople has been announced by Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas and the city's Water Commissioner, Anthony Della Mura, Sr.

An informational session about this "Water Savings Program" was held Monday by the Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply. It is expected to save money and create jobs, according to Thomas.

"Now, local, qualified businesses and workers can get paid quality wages for quality work to create quality savings in their own community. The goal is for the money and the jobs to stay here. Our policies will make Mount Vernon work for you,."

"This new initiative will save Mount Vernon residents money every month on their water bill and will help keep the city clean," Thomas said.

Plumbers and contractors may get on the job list by calling the Board of Water Supply at (914) 665-2365 or send an email here.
