Mount Vernon Strip Club 'Will Never Reopen,' Downtown, Mayor Says

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas has vehemently stated that controversial strip club Sue’s Rendezvous will not reopen downtown after being forced to shutter its doors earlier this year.

For more than four decades, the club ran on Gramatan Avenue before abruptly closing its doors in April as the owner faced mounting legal troubles. It was the location of multiple shootings over several years recently before its closing.

Now, according to multiple reports, the owner is hopeful of bringing the club back to life at its former location. The owner has since submitted an application to reopen, which will be addressed by the Mount Vernon Zoning Board on Dec. 18 after it was adjourned on Nov. 21.

On Twitter, in response to multiple HOT97 radio personalities, Thomas shut down any notions of the strip club reopening, repeatedly saying that “Sue’s Rendezvous will never reopen in downtown Mount Vernon. (It) doesn’t fit the new vision for our downtown.”

Sue’s Rendezvous had become a controversial talking point in Mount Vernon following several violent incidents. In October last year, a woman was shot in the leg when a dispute inside the club spilled out into the street. In 2015 a man from the Bronx was hospitalized after being shot leaving the club and in 2014, Sue’s Rendezvous came under fire for parking a van featuring scantily clad women promoting the club outside the location.
