Westchester Tennis Standout Jamie Loeb Competing In US Open

OSSINING, N.Y. -- An Ossining resident is set to compete on one of tennis' biggest stages.

Jamie Loeb, who won the NCAA Women's Singles Tennis National Championship, is competing in the US Open. Her first round match is Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Arthur Ashe Stadium against fourth seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark on ESPN.

Loeb attended the University of North Carolina and is the first Tar Heel to win the singles national championship. She was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. She recently announced she was turning pro.

The tennis star grew up playing at Ryder Park and was on the Ossining High School tennis team.

Also at the tournament, Serena Williams is aiming to becoming the first woman  to win the Grand Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988.
