Top Stories 2012: Mount Vernon Boys' Hoops Wins Title

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon varsity boys' basketball team won the Section 1 Class AA and New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA championships.

Isaiah Cousins was a member of the Mount Vernon varsity boys' basketball team that won the New York State Class AA title. Cousins is now starting for the University of Oklahoma.

The Knights' two titles were among the top sports stories in 2012 in Mount Vernon.

Megan Patterson, a senior and middle blocker, led the Mount Vernon volleyball team to a berth in the Section 1 Class AA Volleyball Championships. It was the first sectional appearance for the Lady Knights. As a result of Patterson’s contributions and leadership, she was selected the first Mount Vernon Daily Voice Athlete of the Month.

Isaiah Cousins, a 2012 Mount Vernon graduate, has started 10 of 11 games for the University of Oklahoma men’s basketball team. Cousins, a 6-foot-4 guard, is averaging 18.3 minutes per game and leads the team with 26 assists.

Kevin Jones, a 2007 Mount Vernon graduate, signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in late November. Jones, a 2012 West Virginia graduate, has appeared in seven games for the Cavaliers.
