Mount Vernon's Cousins Starts For Oklahoma Basketball

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — At this time last year, Isaiah Cousins was beginning his senior season for the Mount Vernon High basketball team. Now, less than nine months since his last high school game, Cousins is in the starting lineup at the University of Oklahoma.

Cousins, a top recruit after leading the Knights to consecutive New York State Public Schools Class AA titles in 2011 and 2012, chose Oklahoma over several colleges, including Connecticut, Virginia Tech and Dayton. As a senior, Cousins averaged 15.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists and was the top player in Section 1 basketball.

""Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger stated from Day 1 if Isaiah worked hard he had a chance to start," Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino said. "He (Isaiah) has, and Coach Kruger stayed true to his word."

A 6-4 guard who can shoot from the outside, drive to the basket and play defense at a high level, Cousins has already helped the Sooners to a 2-0 start, mostly running the offense and distributing the basketball to his teammates.
