WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Top-seeded Mount Vernon forged a second-half comeback Thursday and held off upset-minded Mahopac for a 43-40 victory in the Section 1 Class AA boys basketball semifinals at the County Center.

The Knights (19-2) trailed by five points at halftime but tied the game at 32-32 after three quarters by outscoring upset-minded No. 6 Mahopac 14-9 in the third quarter.

Mount Vernon advances to Sunday's Class AA title game against No. 6 Spring Valley at noon in the County Center.

The Knights, who have made the Section 1 Final Four 20 consecutive years under coach Bob Cimmino, were upset by rival New Rochelle in last year's championship game on a buzzer-beating three-quarter shot by Khalil Edney that garnered national media coverage.
