Lacrosse Coach At Area High School Resigns After Arrest

A boys lacrosse coach on one of the area's most successful programs has resigned after he was arrested at the school last week.

Raul Bourgeois, a coach on Darien High School's freshman team, was arrested on an active warrant for possession of narcotics, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

His arrest came around 2 p.m. Thursday by Darien Police officers after being notified by the Waterbury Police Department, that he was believed to be on the campus, Darien Police said.

According to Waterbury police Deputy Chief Fred Spagnolo, the warrant and drug charges stemmed from a motor vehicle stop in Waterbury.

Following his arrest, Bourgeois was transported to Darien Police Headquarters where he was turned over to detectives from the Waterbury Police Department.

Darien police said that at no time were students at Darien High School at risk.

Police did not provide information about his bond.
