The competition was renamed last year in honor of Emeritus Professor Jeffrey G. Miller and his contributions to Pace Law School and the competition.

The NELMCC regularly attracts over 200 competitors from diverse law schools and over 175 attorneys who serve as judges for the three days of oral arguments,  making it the largest interschool moot court competition under one roof.

The competition tests the skills of the competing students in appellate brief writing and oral advocacy.  The competition problem each year is taken from real cases and current challenging legal environmental issues.

Teams prepare a brief for their parties legal position in November/early December, which is then graded. From there the teams and coaches come to Pace Law School in February for the oral phase of the competition.  Those with the highest combined scores for both the written brief and oral argument advance and awards are eventually given to the winning team, finalist teams, best briefs, and best oralists.

In 2014, the University Of Mississippi School Of Law won the competition.
