Students will be assessed through the Naglieri Nonverbal Assessment Test.
The test is 30 minutes and will be administered during the school day. After the preliminary screening, students scoring at or above the designated percentile will be invited to take the Otis Lennon School Assessment Test to finalize their placement in the district's gifted and talented programs. Parents can find more information about either assessment on the Internet, along with sample assessments. Parents who prefer that their child not be assessed should write a letter to the child’s principal concerning their choice. Otherwise, all students will be assessed during the week of Feb. 23-27.
Proposed programs for 2015-16 include:
- For gifted and talented students entering grades 1-4: Programs will be designed to nurture academically and artistically gifted and talented students across the district. Site locations will be determined at a later date. Enrichment classes will include accelerated math and science curriculum and classes in instrumental music (strings), dance and technology.
- For students entering grade six: Arts and Science Magnet Program. Parents select the program based on their child’s interest in the arts (theater, dance, instrumental or vocal music and visual art) and science.
