Mount Vernon Switches High School From GPA Calculation System

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon City School District has updated the calculation system for high school grade point averages from a 4.0 scale to a 100 percent scale in order to best represent student academic achievement, according to a district report .

Additionally, a four year phase-in, modifying weights for Honors and Advanced Placement courses from 1.15 and 1.20 to 1.05 and 1.10 respectively has begun.

The weight modification for Honors and Advanced Placement courses is now comparable with neighboring districts.  To view a table representing the weight modification phase-in schedule, click here .

The district will maintain three Honor Rolls, which also have been converted from a 4.0 scale to a 100 percent scale. The Principal’s Honor Roll requires students to maintain an average of 95 or higher with no grade less than 70 on report card, the High Honor Roll requires an average between 90 and 94.999 with no grade less than 70 on report card, and the Honor Roll requires an average between 85 and 89.999 with no grade less than 70 on report card.

Under the supervision of Pupil Personnel Services a committee of school counselors, the Mount Vernon City School District Technology Department and BOCES worked to ensure that the GPA conversion and weight modification were accurate, according to the report.
