MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – A group of four Mount Vernon students were invited to attend the fourth annual Women in the World Summit at Lincoln Center.
The event, which concludes on Friday, brings together some of the most powerful women in the country for a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions. Guests this year include Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie.
The students were able to attend this year as part of an all-female workshop that has been held at the high school this week. All four had to write essays about women in the world that they admire.
Mount Vernon resident Faatima Campbell said that the girls nearly missed out on the summit due to district policies on transportation, but things were cleared up and the students were able to attend.
“The opportunity for these girls to attend is such a grand moment,” she said. “It will expose the young ladies to women who have and are changing the world. The event will expand their minds to explore various career paths, cultures and most importantly, empower them to understand the importance of continuing their education.”
