MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon School Board has announced the shift from a grade point average-based grading system to a percentage-based scale.

Officials say the conversion improves grade transparency and makes student progress easier to understand, evaluate and measure, for all stakeholders

Additionally, a four year phase-in, modifying weights for Honors and Advanced Placement courses from 1.15 and 1.20 to 1.05 and 1.10 respectively has begun.

The schools have also converted the Honor Roll from a 4.0 scale to a 100 percent scale. Principal’s Honor Roll must maintain an average of 95 or higher with no grade less than 70; High Honor Roll has to maintain an average between 90-94.999 and no grade less than 70; Honor Roll: must maintain between 85-89.999 and no less than 70.
