It was an emotional scene at the county center, as city and Schools Superintendent Kenneth Hamilton and High School Principal Ronald Gonzalez were joined by hundreds of members of the Mount Vernon community, who filled the building near capacity.

The Mount Vernon High School graduation marks the final moving-up ceremony in the district, following several at the city’s elementary and middle schools. Earlier this week, both Nelson Mandela and Nellie A. Thornton High Schools celebrated their own commencements.
