Mount Vernon School Budget Nixed By Overwhelming Margin

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Although nearly every other Westchester County municipality passed there school budgets – many by wide margins – Mount Vernon residents voted down the proposed $225,885,332 spending plan.

Mount Vernon will have one more shot to pass the budget later this year.

The Mount Vernon budget was the most lopsided negative vote in the county, with just 773 “yes” votes to 1,1169 “no” votes.

Voters felt that it was time for fresh blood on the school board, with just one of the three incumbents being re-elected. Rosemarie Jarosz will return, but former trustees Delia Farquharson and Marc Stuckey were unseated by Adriane Saunders and Serigne Gningue – who were the top two vote-getters.
