Mount Vernon Residents Get Several Chances To Learn About School Budget

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon City School District will host community workshop presentations to explain its proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year.

The budget still needs approval by the Board of Education and district residents. District taxpayers for a second consecutive year will not see an increase in the school tax levy. 

Presentations are open to the public and scheduled as follows: · 

  • Tuesday, April 5, 6:30 p.m. – Education Center, 165 N. Columbus Ave., Board Room (Presentation at school board meeting) 
  • Tuesday, April 12, 6:30 p.m. – Education Center, 165 N. Columbus Ave., Board Room (Presentation at special school board meeting) 
  • Tuesday, April 19, 6:30 p.m. – Education Center, 165 N. Columbus Ave., Board Room (Presentation at school board meeting)
  • Thursday, April 28, 6:30 p.m. – Rebecca Turner Elementary School, 625 S. Fourth Ave.
  • Tuesday, May 3 – 6:30 p.m. – Education Center, 165 N. Columbus Ave., Board Room (Public hearing at 6 p.m., school board meeting with presentation at 6:30 p.m.)
  • Thursday, May 12, 6:30 p.m. – Pennington School (auditorium), 20 Fairway 
  • The annual school board/budget vote election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
