The member of the 2016 graduating class is headed to Pace University in New York City this fall to major in computer science and mathematics, according to the article.
Math has been her favorite subject ever since she learned to add, subtract, multiply and divide, Rose told mountvernoncsd.org.
The subject comes easiest to her, she continued.
"A math problem is something I can look at and solve right in my head. Worst case, give me pen and paper and set me loose," she told mountvernoncsd.org.
Comparing a math problem to life, Rose explained that though there is just one answer to a math problem, there are "many different ways" to arrive at the right answer.
"I can actually create my own way to the correct answer. It is so representative of life. You set a goal for yourself, and the journey you take, who you become along the way and the lessons you chose to learn are totally up to you," she said in the interview.
Rose said she learned to manage her "time, stress and finances at Mount Vernon High School, where she'll miss most her teachers and guidance counselors "that believed in you when you didn't believe in yourself."
