A 52-question survey has been posted online, asking residents with and without children enrolled in the district what characteristics and traits are important in someone who will serve as a leader both in the district and community.

“Now is the time to develop a process by which a search can be designed and implemented for the purpose of finding a permanent superintendent,” the district wrote. “Before we begin, we are seeking input from the public to hear their opinions on how the trustees might best proceed with the search.”

Johnson was initially hired on a one-year contract last year to replace former interim Superintendent Waverline Bennett-Conroy, who was serving in place of the suspended Walton Sawyer. Earlier this year, she announced that she would remain in the position for one more year before officially retiring.

Carol Kelleher, who has no children currently enrolled in the district, said the district needs to emphasize the character of the next superintendent.

“Miss Johnson has been fantastic doing a lot with a little, so I hope that she has a lot of input in her replacement," she said.
