MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon City School District’s "Dreamgirls" cast sang and acted for audiences on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, taking them on a journey from being young and hopeful to stardom in their final act.
The Dreams – Effie White (played by Dionysia Placide), Deena Jones (played by Nala Parkes), Lorrell Robinson (played by Miriam Parker), and, later, Michelle Morris (played by Jai-la Evans) – as well as singer Jimmy Early (played by Jahari White) are steered through the years by record executive Curtis Taylor Jr. (played by Courtney Taylor-Donville Jr.) and manager Marty Madison (played by Dominique Foxworth).
The performances featured a cast and stage crew of 30 students from Mount Vernon, Thornton and Mandela/Zollicoffer high schools.
