Amani Public Charter School Closed In Mount Vernon Tuesday

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The potentially legendary Nor’easter bearing down on the East Coast has forced the Amani Public Charter School to close on Tuesday.

On Monday morning, district officials announced that “with an abundance of caution,” they had determined that classes will be cancelled and schools closed on Tuesday.

The charter school will continue monitoring the weather, with a decision coming about Wednesday’s classes no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, there will be “blizzard like conditions” beginning on Monday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday night. As many as 16 inches of snow may fall overnight, with an additional seven to 11 inches expected on Tuesday. There will be blustery winds, with gusts reaching 35 mph and temperatures hovering around 25 degrees.
