BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Cedar Knolls, a suburban neighborhood at the corner of Bronxville, is in many ways a community frozen in time. Its homes have been virtually unchanged since the neighborhood's inception, and its residents want to keep it that way.

The narrow, meandering streets are mostly unchanged since Cedar Knolls was built in the early 20th century. The homes still maintain a neo-Classical style architecture and the neighborhood remains tranquil, just minutes from downtown Bronxville. Approved as a subdivision in 1913 and given landmark status by the city of Yonkers in 1996, the 104-acre, 143-home neighborhood was home to many notable residents. These include actors, Charlie Chaplin and Jerome Kern, who wrote the musical, ''Show Boat'' while living in Cedar Knolls.

The Cedar Knolls neighborhood, which has no commercial stores, has remained a private community, reminiscent of pre-depression America. Its residents have worked to keep the feel of America's golden age by limiting the development of commercial storefronts and preserving many of the neighborhood's beautiful homes.

While Cedar Knolls homes rarely hit the market, a recently listed colonial is currently for sale by Mary Cassidy of Park Sterling Real Estate for $1,195,000. 25 Dellwood Road in Bronxville was built in 1926 and features a walkout deck from the master suite and large beams opening to the home's grand foyer. Featuring five bedrooms, five bathrooms and 2,900 sq. ft. of living space, the home is ideal for comfortable, family living.

Like many homes built in the Cedar Knolls neighborhood, 25 Dellwood Road is less than 30 minutes from New York City and is situated just minutes from Bronxville schools, shopping and Metro-North. A neighborhood that boasts tranquility and gorgeous turn-of-the-century architecture, Cedar Knolls offers classic New York luxury.
