On Friday, July 15, at approximately 1 p.m., Deal Police Officer Jon Losquadro was dispatched to Ohel Yaacob Congregation at Ocean and Lawrence avenues for a man screaming obscenities at congregants.

Officers responded to the scene and interviewed the victims and learned that the accused had made several terroristic threats that were biased in nature. He also was recording himself making the threats, authorities said.

Following further investigation, the accused was located on the 4th Ave beach in Asbury Park and was arrested by Deal officers.

Nicholas Skirvin, of Denville, was taken to Deal Police Headquarters for processing. He was charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats and harassment.

“The hate-filled rhetoric heard last Friday in what is typically a peaceful neighborhood with a tight-knit Jewish community wasn’t just abhorrent and disturbing – it was criminal,” Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said. “The charges being announced today should send a clear message that we take such conduct with the utmost seriousness. There is no place for hate in Monmouth County – especially when it is the motive behind a crime.”

Skirvin was being held in Monmouth County Jail pending a detention hearing.
