Man Who Threatened LI Store Clerk With Box Cutter Caught After Fleeing 7-Eleven, Police Say

A man who threatened a store clerk with a box cutter was caught shortly after he fled from a Long Island 7-Eleven, police said.

It happened on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 11:40 a.m. in East Meadow.

Stephen Radi, 45, entered the 7-Eleven located at 2397 Hempstead Turnpike and threatened the store clerk, a 63-year-old man, with a boxcutter, Nassau County Police said.

Radi, who is homeless, then took beer from the establishment and exited without attempting to pay, police said. He then fled the scene on foot.

Radi was located at 1:05 p.m. by a patrol unit in the vicinity of Nassau University Medical Center and placed under arrest without incident.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, petit larceny and second-degree menacing. 

He is due to be arraigned on Sunday, March 1 at First District Court in Hempstead.
