Spring Valley To Receive $13,000 Public Safety Grant

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- The Village of Spring Valley will receive a $13,065 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to enhance the effectiveness of its local public safety programs, according to U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Westchester/Rockland, the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee.

The grant, a cornerstone of the federal crime-fighting program, assists in the efforts of states and localities in testing various approaches to public safety challenges.

“Our communities are most secure when we work together to fight and reduce crime,” Lowey said. “I’m pleased this grant will ensure the continued safety of our neighborhoods and families by helping Spring Valley better equip and train local law enforcement."

Over the years, a number of criminal justice practices, including anti-gang strategies, drug courts, reentry programs, and information sharing protocols such as multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces, have been have been tested using funds from the program and are now in practice nationwide.
