Hackensack Teacher Aide Charged With Hitting Student

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A teacher's aide in a Hackensack school was arrested Thursday after authorities said he hit a student.

Jose D. Garrido, 60, of North Bergen was ordered held on $20,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with child endangerment and simple assault.

The assault occurred at the YCS George Washington School on Hudson Street, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Friday morning.

The child's parent went to Hackensack police, who Molinelli said notified his Special Victims Unit.

The child wasn't seriously injured, authorities said.

A Monday arraignment in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack was scheduled.
