Bridgeport has big hits from Austin Krum and Yusuf Carter, fueling the win

By PAUL HERRMANN

Bridgeport – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Camden Riversharks 8-4 in Monday night’s game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Bridgeport didn’t get out of the gate strong in the series opener. Starter Mike Parisi walked in two runs within the first three innings to have the ‘Fish trailing 3-0 after five innings.

That’s where things changed for Bridgeport. At one point during the hour and ten minute rain delay the team was unsure if the game would resume. It’s a good thing it did as the offensive explosion came down with the rain in the seventh inning.

Alexis Gomez started off the inning with a double that was followed by three straight hits and two runs coming across the board. With two-outs and the bases loaded, Austin Krum came up huge for the ’Fish as he cleared the bases with a double, giving Bridgeport a 5-3 lead.

After Matt Sommo gave a run back in the eighth inning; Yusuf Carter added the insurance that Bridgeport was looking for. He clobbered a pitch over the left field wall that scored three more runs and gave the ‘Fish a 8-4 lead and eventually the win at that score.

Ruddy Lugo (4-2) picked up the win as he pitched in two innings after Parisi was finished with the rain delay. Lugo gave up one hit and one walk in that span. Parisi ended up giving up three runs (two earned) off of six hits in five innings of work.

The Riversharks started Jake Hale who was cursing along in this one until the rain hit. He finished five innings without allowing a run giving up just three hits and fanning four Bluefish hitters. The loss ended up going to Scott Gorgen (0-7), who couldn’t get out of his second inning of work as he allowed four runs on four hits in that inning-plus of work.

Luis Lopez finished with a team best three hits while James Simmons and Alexis Gomez had two hits as well in the win.
