What’s Happening in New Rochelle This Weekend

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A day of Christian service, a Medicaid benefits information session and a "CelebriTea" are some of the events planned around New Rochelle this weekend.

Friday, April 20

League of Women Voters Coffee and Conversation: 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. City of New Rochelle Sustainability Coordinator Deborah Newborn will discuss progress on the city's Green NR initiative and what it means for the city during this monthly event. The gathering will be held in the meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library.

Senior Benefits Information Center: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Seniors can come to this weekly help session to get help from experienced volunteers about what Medicaid benefits are available to them, how to apply for them fill out the forms and the rules they need to know associated with the process. The drop-in event is held in the BTOP Help Center on the second floor of the New Rochelle Public Library. The library is located in downtown New Rochelle at One Library Plaza.

Saturday, April 22

Iona Preparatory School Make A Different Day: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Iona Preparatory School hosts its first “Make A Difference Day” in coordination with all Catholic high schools in New Rochelle. The event will divide 100 students into four groups to volunteer on different worksites. Some will work with Habitat for Humanity and SAIL at Ferncliff Manor on construction projects. Others will work in the Hope Community Services Food Pantry, while others will clean the field used by the New Rochelle Little League.  Schools involved include Blessed Sacrament High School, Iona Prep, Salesian High School and The Ursuline School.

Friends of the New Rochelle Book Store: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library have their biweekly book store open in the back of the first floor of the library. Customers can find books in a variety of genres at bargain prices. The library is located in downtown New Rochelle at One Library Plaza.

Sunday, April 23

Authors Event at New Rochelle Public Library: 3:30 p.m.

Authors Deborah Baker, Brian Cronin and David Hajdu will partake in the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation’s CelebriTea in the New Rochelle Public Library’s lobby.  Tickets cost $85 (premium tickets cost $125 and include a listing in the program, and VIP tickets are available for $250 and include the listing and a reserved seat). Reservations can be made by secure transaction online or by calling the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation office at 914-632-7878, ext. 16. The library will be closed all day for this event.
