Years in the works, the $60 million LaPorte development features nearly 175 units for rent, 20,000-square-feet of retail space and a municipal parking garage. The deadline to apply for housing there has been set at Monday, July 11.

The project has been in the works for more than five years, but developers have had difficulty locking down funds from certain parties. This is a part of the first phase of the city’s master plan that is designed to revitalize downtown Mount Vernon.

The LaPorte development will feature hardwood floors, energy star appliances, a children’s play area, lounge, computer labs, a rooftop green space and laundry room.

Those interested in applying for an apartment at LaPorte can do so online. The drawing will be selected by lottery, with a third of the complex’s residences’ earmarked for city residents.
