MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon Democratic mayoral candidate Richard Thomas felt his win in the primary on Thursday was a changing of the guard moment in local politics, according to lohud.com.

Thomas, a 32-year-old city councilman, believes his age was a key factor in the victory in which incumbent Ernie Davis was among those defeated.

He also defeated longtime state senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson and city comptroller Maureen Walker in Thursday's primary.
