At 7 p.m., Grace Baptist Church will host a preparation rally with the National Action Network to galvanize the community for the commemoration of the march at which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I Have A Dream Speech.”

On Aug. 24, Sharpton and Martin Luther King III – the civil rights leader’s eldest son -  will mount the same steps at the Lincoln Memorial, where the speech was given.

On Thursday, Sharpton will be joined by senior pastor the Rev. W. Franklyn Richardson, leaders from the United Black Clergy of Westchester and elected officials at the rally, which is designed to inform residents and prepare them for the march in the nation’s capital.

In a statement in advance of his appearance in the city, Sharpton said that the groups rallying at the Lincoln Memorial are doing more than celebrating the golden anniversary of the historic speech.

“It is the intent of those that come together to make it clear that this is not just a nostalgia visit, that this is not a commemoration, but a continuation and a call to action,” he said. “We are in a climate that is threatening too much of what was achieved 50 years ago.”
