This raises the possibility of a GOP primary against Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who ran against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2015, the Times said.

Gibson said that filing this early allowed him to match Cuomo's fundraising skills, reported the New York Times.

While neither Gibson and Astorino have formally declared their candidacy yet, the pair do have a contentious history, including Astorino telling Gibson 'do your job' instead of gauging interest in a 2018 run in statements made last September.
