Paperwork Snafu Forces Reynolds Out Of Mount Vernon Democratic Primary

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Less than one month before voters head to the polls to make their voices heard at the mayoral Democratic primary in Mount Vernon, a prominent candidate has been dropped from the ballot after her nomination was called into question.

Mount Vernon City Councilwoman Deborah Reynolds’ name will not appear on the ballot at the Sept. 10 primary after some of the signatures in her petition to run for office were challenged, and ultimately found to be invalid.

All is not lost for Reynolds; however, as she will still be running for mayor in the general election on the Conservative Line. With Reynolds out, the field is down to four challenging incumbent Mayor Ernest Davis: Sen. Ruth Hassell-Thompson, City Councilman Richard Thomas, former Mayor Clinton Young and Comptroller Maureen Walker.

Reynolds could not immediately be reached for comment about the latest development in her run for office.

The five Democratic candidates will all be in one room next week, as they face off in a mayoral debate forum at Wartburg. The debate will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the Conference Center at 1 Wartburg Place.
