Moreland Commission Was Looking Into Sen. Ball's Spending, NY Times Says

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Reports from the Moreland Commission say Republican state Sen. Greg Ball financed trips to Cancun and Acapulco as well as thousands in bar and restaurant tabs with campaign donations, according to The New York Times. 

The Moreland Commission was looking into how Sen. Greg Ball spent his campaign donations before Gov. Cuomo shut it down.

Ball was just one of many state politicians the Moreland Commission had targeted before Gov. Andrew Cuomo shuttered the commission in a budget deal in March, The New York Times reported. 

As a result of Cuomo's shutting down of the commission, the political climate in Albany and throughout New York has not changed very much, The New York Times said. 

A lawyer for Ball, Joseph Tacopina, said Ball's accounting left much to be desired, but that Ball had done nothing wrong and would not face charges, the Times reported.
